A brand-new old Tyrrell P34 is on the market!

In recent years, the classic car market has seen a new breed of 'continuation' machines emerge from well-known workshops, officially sanctioned by a factory and often priced just as high as the original model.

CGA Race Engineering of Warrington in the UK took a shot at the 'continuation' market concept by recreating a 1976 Tyrrell P34, the only six-wheel car to race in and win in F1.

According to Sotheby's private sale specialist who is handling the car's sale, the P34 Official Continuation - which is one of two machines recreated by CGA in 2019/20 - was constructed from original Team Tyrrell drawings and with the full support and license of the Tyrrell Family.

The car, which is fitted with a Geoff Richardson Cosworth DFV and Hewland FG400 gearbox, was also built to the exact specification of Jody Scheckter’s 1976 Swedish GP winning chassis P34/3.

Sotheby's hasn't given an indication of this stunning recreation's price, but we'd venture to guess that the P34 'Continuation' sports a hefty price tag.

Finally, the car is eligible for numerous Historic F1 events, including Masters Historic Racing, Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and Monaco Grand Prix Historique.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
