Kubica and C° deliver home win and ELMS title to WRT

Robert Kubica and teammates Louis Deletraz and Yifei Ye delivered on Sunday a home win at Spa and the European Le Mans Series title to Team WRT with one race to spare.

The trio's third triumph of the 2021 ELMS season was a revenge over the heartbreaking last lap retirement it had suffered at Le Mans last month while leading the LMP2 class.

"We are very happy, we couldn’t expect a better weekend on our home track!" said Kubica.

"After Le Mans, it was nice to be back racing and put everything behind. We did a good race, took no risks and our main competitor struggled.

"We take the championship before it ends, I really want to thank the entire team, my teammates and everybody who made that possible."

After subbing for Kimi Raikkonen at Zandvoort and Monza, Kubica will hand back to the Finn his drive with Alfa Romeo Racing for this week's Russian Grand Prix.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
