Sir Jackie bids a final farewell to Juan Manuel Fangio

The remains of the great Juan Manuel Fangio were carried on Wednesday from the local cemetery of his native town of Balcarce to his final resting place, a mausoleum at the Fangio Museum located near the small house where he was born in Argentina in 1911.

Three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart was one of the pallbearers at Fangio's funeral in 1995, and the Scot is the last survivor of the group of six men that included back then Sir Stirling Moss and Fangio's countrymen and fellow racers Froilan Gonzalez and Carlos Reutemann.

Sir Jackie was in attendance once again at Wednesday's ceremony where he gave an emotional speech that honored the memory of the five-time F1 World Champion.

"For me there can be no other racing driver who is more justified in having all of this occurring," Stewart told Argentine media in Mar del Plata.

"The fact that he is now going to be by his cars, in his museum, I think is a great, great honour to him.

"To be able to go into the same room that the great man is going to be in, whatever the difference of time and all that has gone with it. The spirit is still as strong as ever."
