Racing roots: The Leclerc legacy unleashed in Monaco

A home race is an important milestone for a driver of any stature, but for the Leclerc family, racing on home turf in Monaco is a big part of the clan's legacy.

Both Charles and brother Arthur will be in action in the Principality this weekend, with the former undoubtedly feeling the weight of expectation with Ferrari and the latter seeking to secure his first win in the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Along with brother Enzo who looks after the interests of his siblings, and with their mother Pascale, the family came together this week for a moment of bonding ahead of the furor and glitz of Formula 1's most prestigious event.

Monaco remains the backdrop of the Leclerc family's shared journey in motorsport, the place where Charles and Arthur's dreams first took flight, propelled by the passion of their late father, Hervé, who passed away in 2017.

His helmet remains the symbol of a spirit that continues to spur on the tight-knit tribe.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
