News of Daniil Kvyat’s promotion to Toro Rosso for the 2014 season came as a little surprise, especially after fellow Red Bull youngster Antonio Felix da Costa was tipped for the seat. However, the Russian quickly proved his credentials when he replaced Jean-Eric Vergne for his maiden FP1 session at the 2013 United States Grand Prix in Austin. That Friday, Kvyat finished only a couple of tenths of the other full-time Toro Rosso driver: a certain Daniel Ricciardo, who is now his team-mate at Red Bull.
