Thirty five years after the glorious Alfettas, a descendant of the prestigious Italian machines made its F1 debut at Zolder in the Spring of 1979. The Alfa 177 driven by Bruno Giacomelli offered an interesting bright red profile. Later on, dressed in its sponsor's red and white livery, it showed the odd spark of competitiveness but never succeeded in winning, even in the capable hands of Giacomelli, Patrick Depailler, Mario Andrett and Andrea de Cesaris.
