Bernie Ecclestone has met with a party interested in taking over the Marussia F1 Team and believes the team’s future will be resolved within 10 days.

A planned auction of Marussia assets – scheduled for Wednesday of this week – was cancelled to allow talks to continue with a third party showing interest in the team. Team principal John Booth told the BBC that the chances of a deal being struck were “pretty high”, and Ecclestone now says he has met with the prospective buyers too.

"I had a meeting with someone ... that said they want to buy and think they can buy Marussia,” Ecclestone told Sky Sports. “So that would be good. Caterham, I don't think there's much chance of saving them, but Marussia I think there's a chance."

Having denied that Gene Haas could be involved with the Marussia takeover bid, Ecclestone said he wants any new owners to have the resources to ensure a secure future for the team.

“We don’t want somebody who can just limp on, that’s just what we don’t want. We went through this whole saga at the end of last year, we don’t want to go through it again. I think maybe within 10 days we’ll have a clear answer of yes it’s going to happen or not.”
