Michael Schumacher won the 1998 Italian Grand Prix at Monza on this date 18 years ago, heading Ferrari team-mate Eddie Irvine, much to the delight of the adoring tifosi. Adding to their happiness was Schumacher’s McLaren rival Mika Hakkinen slipping down to fourth, which allows the German to draw level on points with the Finn in the title race.
