Gabriel Bortoleto, Kick Sauber (P14) 3/10

SQ2 was a promising result for the Brazilian Bortoleto, but that was as good as it got for last year’s Formula 2 Champion. He was unlucky to be spun out during the Sprint race, but then spun of his own accord in the opening metres of the Grand Prix, dropping to the foot of the field. He pretty much stayed there for the rest of the race, owing to the inferior pace of the Kick Sauber.

Jack Doohan, Alpine (P13) 4/10

Clumsy is the word for Doohan’s Chinese Grand Prix weekend. He performed a clumsy overtake attempt on Bortoleto on the final lap of the Sprint, then executed a clumsy defence against Hadjar at the hairpin in the main race, resulting in a hefty ten-second penalty. But at least he managed to keep Hadjar behind for the rest of the event, and apart from those few mistakes he drove a quiet, drama-free race. It was better than his last weekend, although you couldn’t get much worse than his efforts in Melbourne.
