Daniil Kvyat says it is important Red Bull turns its season around when racing resumes in Europe after admitting the team has been "going backwards".

Red Bull took three victories in 2014 as it comfortably finished second in the constructors' championship having been the only team other than Mercedes to win a race. 2015 has been a much more challenging season so far, with reliability issues and Ferrari's resurgence limiting the team to a best result of sixth place.

Kvyat scored two points in Bahrain as he finished in ninth place - matching his result from Malaysia - and he says Red Bull needs to make progress with its car to fight further up the grid.

"Obviously we do plan some (upgrades) like many other teams and hopefully they are going to work well," Kvyat said. "I am confident with the team - it is going to go forwards from now onwards because we have been going backwards. But now I feel the good work is coming."

And Kvyat admits just finishing the race in Bahrain was a relief having failed to start in Australia and retiring in China.

"It puts a smile on my face, at least we are driving. Reliability was good and so we finished the race. It is the second race that I have finished, so there are plenty of things to look at and analyse where we can pick up some pace and some margins for improvement in communication between us. So, as you know it is a long process."
