Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says it is "hard to judge" new driver Daniil Kvyat so far this season.

Kvyat joined Red Bull from Toro Rosso over the winter, replacing Ferrari-bound Sebastian Vettel. The move was a bold one as Kvyat has only one year of F1 experience behind him, with his seat at Toro Rosso coming off the back of a GP3 championship in 2013.

Horner admits he has not been able to gauge how Kvyat is performing so far but says he is pleased with the attitude the young Russian has shown despite suffering from numerous reliability problems.

"The problem for Daniil is he has had a lot issues, more than his fair share, that has interrupted practice, qualifying and races," Horner said. "When he has had a clean run, like [in Bahrain], he has done a good job.

"In Malaysia he drove a strong race there, so it is hard to judge him at the moment because he has not had a fair hand. What we are seeing is he is quick, his feedback is strong and he has not let his head drop. I think a bit of time and consistency, you will start to see his potential"
