Kaltenborn wants Sauber answers ahead of Austria

Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn says she wants the team to find answers to its struggles at the Canadian Grand Prix.

While Felipe Nasr crashed in FP3 and was subsequently on the back foot in qualifying, both drivers made it through to Q2 at a circuit where Sauber expected to be strong. However, in the race both Nasr and Marcus Ericsson failed to make any progress and Kaltenborn told F1i it’s important the team has fixes in place for its issues by the next race in Austria.

“We definitely have to learn and understand why that race pace was missing because Austria is a similar track,” Kaltenborn said. “We went to Canada and we still believe that kind of track should be suiting our car more than other tracks like Barcelona, so we have to exactly understand what happened.”

And Kaltenborn says Sauber will have some updates at the post-race test in Austria, with the C34 having so far only seen limited development.

“We will be trying things there. We have a plan to bring a bigger update out in the second half of the season, but we have to see what we can bring forward and does it make sense looking at what happens at the test.”
