Alguersuari puts career on hold for health reasons

Former Toro Rosso F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari has been forced to put his racing career on a hold for an indefinite time pending the resolution of an unknown health issue.

The likeable 25-year-old Spaniard who raced in Formula 1 between 2009 and 2011 had found refuge this year in the burgeoning Formula E championship, racing for Virgin, but withdrew from the series when he fainted at the end of the Moscow ePrix in June.

Following a failed mandatory health test commanded by the FIA in such instance, Alguersuari had his license suspended by the governing body.

"During the month of July I underwent several tests for which there has not been a medical resolution and I am still waiting for the final diagnosis," says Alguersuari.

"For this reason I need to announce that, unfortunately, I will not be able to take part in the FIA Formula E Championship for the 2015/16 season with my team DS Virgin Racing."

Alguersuari will make an announcement about his future in September.

He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
