Christian Horner admits he has been impressed by Daniil Kvyat's resilience after a testing start to his debut season with Red Bull.

Kvyat missed the opening race of the season in Melbourne when his car broke down on the way to the grid, and he then struggled in the opening rounds as Red Bull also faced a number of reliability problems. The young Russian driver has recovered to challenge Daniel Ricciardo in recent races and finished second in Hungary to secure the first podium of his F1 career.

Having already praised Kvyat's development, Horner says the manner in which the 21-year-old has recovered from the difficult start has impressed him the most.

"Daniil Kyvat needs to pay more attention to the rule book but he’s getting there," Horner said. "After a slow-ish start which wasn’t really all his fault; he missed the first grand prix, lots of reliability issues and failures.

"It could have got into his head a lot more than it did and testimony to him that he bounced back from it and got himself going. I’d say a very positive report for him going into the first break."

Kvyat currently sits just six points behind Ricciardo in the drivers' championship.
