"Pump up the volume!" says Max

Toro Rosso junior bull Max Verstappen wants F1 cars to be louder, and believes the fans do also.

Speaking to the Formula1.com website, the Dutch teenager said the noise has always been an intricate part of Grand Prix racing, and at the basis of the sport's excitement and thrill.

"Normally if you speak to people and say ‘F1’, it’s noise that they mention. Now we have F1 but with no noise. I think it’s just part of F1 - we should make the most noise of all cars, not GP2 cars."

For all the difficulties and demands associated with a rookie's entry into the big time - let alone the tensions and scrutiny facing a 17-year-old novice - Verstappen has acquitted himself extraordinarily well, displaying an indisputable talent but also a cool and controlled demeanour, regardless of the circumstances.

"For me I don’t feel less or more pressure. To be honest I never really felt a lot of pressure, also at the start of the year."

" The first two races you take it a bit easier with overtaking - you want to finish races to get experience. When you get more confidence in the car you can do braver overtakes, and I think that’s getting better and better all the time."

To date, Verstappen has scored 22 championship points, achieving his best result in Hungary with a fourth place position.
