Todt non-committal to third FIA presidency term

Jean Todt is still pondering the prospect of holding a third mandate at the head  of the FIA.

The former Ferrari boss picked up the baton from Max Mosley in 2010 to lead the governing body of Formula 1, and then secured a second term four-year at the helm in 2014.

Todt's distinctive low-profile style has been in sharp contrast to his predecessor's hands-on approach to affairs in general and Formula 1 in particular.

In an interview with the FIA's Auto magazine, Todt admitted he had not yet reached a formal decision on whether to stand for re-election

"I have begun to work with my team and our members to make my decision and this will allow me to announce that choice very quickly.

"Of course, with a democratic organisation I could have a competitor who beats me. But clearly it's a goal that should be addressed in motor sport, whoever is the leader, to try to bring costs down."

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
