Kubica gets back in a single-seater!

For the first time in six years, Robert Kubica was back behind the wheel of a single-seater racer as the former F1 driver tested a GP3 car in Italy.

The test took place at the Franciacorta circuit located east of Milan where the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner completed 70 trouble-free laps.

"I'm back on the water where I swam for many years, and I must say the feeling is great," said Kubica after his session in the Trident-run car.

"I was surprised, because after so long the feeling with the asphalt and the feelings I remember are back afloat. Of course there were a lot of things that I can do better.

"On the physical front and preparing many aspects you can improve, but my limits are at a good point.

"I did it [the test] in a tricky condition - Franciacorta Circuit is taxing and the GP3 single-seater is without power steering, but I'm glad to have had this chance".

Kubica calls off LMP1 WEC programme

Kubica's career in Grand Prix racing was cut short following an injury to his right arm sustained in a rally crash in 2011.

The Pole gradually returned to racing, driving in the WRC, and was scheduled to race in the World Endurance Championship this season with the ByKolles LMP1 outfit.

Ultimately however, Kubica pulled out of the venture just a week before the season kicked off at Silverstone last weekend.

He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
