Russia is apparently pressing The Formula One Group to have its 2018 race in Sochi pushed back towards the latter part of the F1 calendar.
The Russian Grand Prix at Sochi first appeared on the F1 schedule in October 2014. The race was again held in that month the following year but then rescheduled to the spring in 2016 and 2017.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak is now keen to see the race once again taking place in October.
"We have asked Formula 1's organisers to restore our place in the autumn," he said.
Igor Ermilin, the auto racing presidential advisor, agreed.
"I do not think this postponement is wrong in any way, and I do not think there will be problems with the FIA.
"Postponement of Formula 1 races is standard practice that happens from time to time, and the date of the race is not strictly defined contractually," he added.
