Formula E boss Alejandro Agag would love to see Scuderia Ferrari enter his all-electric Formula E series sometime in the near future.

Formula E has already attracted significant manufacturer involvement and interest.

BMW  and Renault are already devoting engineering resources to Formula E through their tie-ups with Andretti and e.dams.

Audi, Jaguar and Citroen's DS brand are also involved to various degrees  while Mercedes owns an option to enter the fray for the 2018/2019 season.

Speaking earlier this week, FIA Presdient Jean Todt praised Renault's direct involvement, and also hoped the Ferrari  would commit to FE.

"Ferrari in Formula E is quite possible," Agag told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We are in the third year. We are looking at new races in Hong Kong, New York, Montreal and Marrakech. We want to grow and thrive -- I have a lot to do here.

"I see 20 drivers but no Italian flags," he added.

"I already know that every young Italian dreams only of Ferrari, but I'm sure that sooner or later we will have a driver from Italy. Or an Italian brand."

Does Ferrari fit the bill?

"Three years ago, nobody could have imagined that. In Italy there are Fiat, Maserati, Alfa Romeo.

"I read that Marchionne is always speaking of Alfa Romeo's return. We would welcome them with open arms," said Agag.

Ferrari's Sergio Marchionne is watching FE's development with interest, and admitted his company was seriously considering an entry into the all-electric series, but likely not before 2022.

"We need to be involved in Formula E because electrification via hybridisation is going to be part of our future," Marchionne told FIA publication Auto back in April.
