Ferrari traces engine failure - Vettel gets new components

Ferrari has identified the cause of Sebastian Vettel's engine failure yesterday in qualifying and has subsequently decided to fit new components to the power unit.

Vettel's SF70H was fitted with a new engine ahead of qualifying yesterday as a precautionary measure but an issue at the outset of the session prevented the German from setting a time, sending him to the back of the grid.

The Scuderia traced the problem to a broken manifold that fed air from the compressor to the internal combustion unit.

The engine was fitted overnight with a new ICE, turbo and MGU-H, all of which are the fifth element of each component.

Vettel will not be impacted by the grid penalty associated with the change as he is already starting last, hence Ferrari's initiative which boosts the driver's pool of components for the remainder of the season.
