Raikkonen sees deferred impact of Liberty Media's efforts

Kimi Raikkonen believes the effects of Liberty Media's efforts to improve Formula 1 won't be seen until a few years down the road.

The sport's new owners have embarked on a complete overhaul of Grand Prix racing, the finality of which shall be seen in 2021 when F1's new regulation platform comes into force.

Negative views from Ferrari and Mercedes over a proposed new power unit, and declining revenue for teams this year have led to complaints and worries about the future direction of F1, but Raikkonen suggests patience.

"They are trying to make it better, easier to follow and more involving the public," said the Ferrari driver.

"But it will only be in a few years, when the new regulations are in force (in 2021), that we will really see the impact of their arrival," he is quoted by Auto Hebdo.

"I think they're putting a lot of effort in, listening to everyone and asking the right questions. I think we'll see if it has been good when we get the new cars," Raikkonen added.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
