Four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has yet to extend his contract with Mercedes beyond 2018 but talks are proceeding nicely says Toto Wolff.
The Mercedes boss believes it's only "a matter of time" before the 33-year-old commits to a new deal with the German team.
"Lewis has become such an important pillar within the team that it's a no-brainer that we continue with each other," Wolff said this week.
"The discussions are ongoing in a very positive mindset and it's just a matter of time when we seal it and put a signature to the document."
The British driver is rumored to be negotiating a pay-rise to bring his annual retainer with Mercedes up to £40, while speculation puts the duration of his prospective contract at three years.
Hamilton has previously said that he's continually evaluating his career options.
"It's like the weather, it's about trying to find the balance," said the Brit last year.
"I want to keep racing but there are these other things I want to do. I want my cake and I want to eat it - I just want to make sure I choose the right time. But I think I will."
When it comes to 2019, it's not just Hamilton that Wolff has to worry about, Valtteri Bottas will also be a free agent at the end of next year, and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo could be lurking in the wings.
"We've had a good winter, I would say," said Wolff.
"No real drama, but there is always stress within the organisation at this time of the year."
