Audi's Daniel Abt broke his electric duck in Mexico City, the German driver clinching his first ePrix victory in the series.

The field whizzed off with poleman Felix Rosenqvist in the lead, the Mahindra charger building himself an advantage in the early stages of his first stint before a sudden power loss inexplicably wreaked havoc on his prospects.

Nio's Oliver Turvey then took command but a charging Abt, who had ticked off Sebastian Buemi for second, was fast approaching when the leading group undertook its car swap.

The Audi crew strapped in Abt and had him on his way faster than his rivals, procuring a comfortable cushion to their driver ahead of Turvey.

Abt capitalized on his gain and never set a foot wrong, checking the checkered flag with 6.3s margin over Turvey, with Buemi, Nelson Piquet Jr. and championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne in tow.

Abt's Audi team mate and reigning FE champion Lucas di Grassi, who had started last following a grid penalty, managed to salvage a few points by battling his way to ninth.

Vergne remains at the top of the drivers' standings with 81 points, a 12-point lead over Rosenqvist while DS Virgin's Sam Bird ins third with 61 points.

The Formula E community will be heading to Punta del Este in Uruguay for the sixth round of the all-electric series which takes place on March 17.
