Norris on McLaren test duty for two days in Barcelona

McLaren reserve driver Lando Norris will be at the wheel of the MCL33 for two days of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this month.

"Super-haps to be back testing with McLaren F1 for both days of the Barcelona test," he tweeted on Thursday.

The first in-season test of 2018 is scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, May 15 following the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

Norris will spend the first day of testing conducting runs for Pirelli. It's one of the team's designated tyre development outings, meaning that they get to run two cars on track at the same time.

The team's full-time race driver Stoffel Vandoorne will run the other car for the day. He'll then step down and leave the keys for Norris on Wednesday.

The Pirelli development work will be transferred from Norris to Oliver Turvey for the second day of running.

Norris will already be at the venue, as he is competing in the Formula 2 support races at the weekend.

The 18-year-old currently leads the championship following victory in the opening round in Bahrain. He's finished in the points in all four races of the season with Carlin. He missed out on a possible win in Baku after being forced wide into a run-off while fighting toward the front of the field.

Norris last took Mclaren's F1 car out for a drive last November in the post-season test at Abu Dhabi.

Force India has also announced which drivers wil be in action for them at the test.

The team will be fielding the VJM11 for their reserve driver Nicholas Latifi on Tuesday, and for development driver Nikita Mazepin on Wednesday.

Mercedes junior George Russell will run in a second car and conduct tyre development for Pirelli. Like Norris, Russell is competing in his first year in Formula 2 and picked up his maiden win in Sunday's hard-fought sprint race in Baku.
