Renault will apparently keep and repair the faulty MGU-K that almost destroyed Daniel Ricciardo's impressive Monaco Grand Prix win.
The Red Bull driver suffered a sudden loss of power after just 20 laps in last Sunday's race when the MGU-K component failed.
Ricciardo masterfully raced on for over 50 laps to the checkered flag despite the setback.
An essential part of today's turbo hybrid power units along with the much decried MGU-H, the kinetic element harvests energy during a car's braking phase which is then used to assist the V6 internal combustion engine.
The component's replacement would have led to a 10-place grid penalty for Ricciardo as it would have been the Red Bull driver's third element, putting him beyond the 2018 limit of two MGU-K elements authorized for the season.
However, according to Germany's Auto, Motor und Sport, Renault has succeeded in preserving the engine's MHU-K, thus avoiding a grid penalty for Ricciardo in Montreal.
