Ex-McLaren-Honda reserve driver Kevin Magnussen will sample the Porsche 919 Hybrid, which is currently leading the LMP1 class in the FIA World Endurance Championship, during a test held at Barcelona on November 10/11.

The Dane will join multiple GP2 Series race winner Mitch Evans and McLaren-Honda test and development driver Oliver Turvey for a two-day session at the Spanish Grand Prix venue.

Despite an encouraging F1 rookie campaign in 2014, Magnussen had to step back to a reserve role following Fernando Alonso’s return to Woking last winter.

Having repeatedly said that he would not wait on the sidelines for another season, the 23-year-old parted ways with McLaren shortly after former team-mate Jenson Button had been confirmed for 2016.

“We decided to give three young drivers a chance to test the Porsche 919 Hybrid,” said Porsche team principal Andreas Seidl.

“The seat fit and simulator preperation is already done. We are looking forward to the test and will see what the future brings.”

The former Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion, who missed out on an IndyCar drive earlier this year after subbing for the injured Alonso at Melbourne, quickly took to his Twitter account to share his enthusiasm.
