Nicolas Todt now steering Daniil Kvyat's return to F1

Driver manager Nicolas Todt says he is now handling the interests of Daniil Kvyat, providing further evidence that the Russian driver will likely be returning to active F1 duty next season.

The 24-year-old endured a troubled four-year period in F1 with Red Bull, marked by a promotion, a demotion and inconsistent results that ultimately led to him being dropped by the energy drink company after last year's US Grand Prix.

Kvyat was hired in early 2018 by Ferrari to undertake simulator and development work, but a lack of young chargers in Red Bull's junior programme has apparently enticed motorsport boss Helmut Marko to give Kvyat another shot at F1 with Toro Rosso.

"I have managed Daniil’s racing career for the last few months," Todt told Motorsport.com, the son of FIA president Jean Todt also managing the affairs of Ferrari's new recruit Charles Leclerc.

"I’m very keen to help a talent like him, who in my opinion has unfinished business in F1."

Nicknamed 'the torpedo' in F1 for his often unpredictable and ill-inspired aggressive driving, Kvyat's speed has never been put in doubt, contrary to his level of maturity.

However, Marko believes Red Bull's former protégé has gained in wisdom since he's been on F1's sidelines.

"I would say he is more mature, but we are not in a hurry with Toro Rosso," the Austrian recently told Motorsport.com.

"We will solve our driver problems. We have a big list of names, and we’ll see."

Current drivers Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley are facing very different fates for 2019, with the former heading over to Red Bull Racing while the Kiwi's days in F1 are likely numbered.

In addition to Kvyat, another former F1 driver aspiring to achieve a comeback and who appears to be high on Toro Rosso's shortlist is Pascal Wehrlein who was recently released from his contractual obligations by Mercedes.
