Gallery: A visit in pictures of the 'Michael 50' exhibition

The opening day of the 'Michael 50' exhibition at the Ferrari Museum was a resounding success, with fans and Ferrari Club members from all across Europe converging to Maranello.

The event tells the story of Michael Schumacher's record-breaking F1 career during which the great German driver won seven world titles, 91 victories and 155 podiums.

The museum's Hall of Victories displays a prestigious array of the most important Ferrari cars driven in Schumacher's eleven years with the Scuderia.

But the exhibit also showcases the lesser-known but important role played by the F1 legend in the development of a series of road cars produced by the House of Maranello, such as the 430 Scuderia in 2007 and the Ferrari California in 2008.

The exhibition will run alongside ‘Driven by Enzo’ and ‘Passion and Legend’, which are already open at the Maranello Museum.

‘Michael 50’ has been organised in partnership with the Schumacher family's Keep Fighting Foundation.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
