Eric Boullier insists there will be no let up in development at McLaren-Honda across the final two races of the season, despite Fernando Alonso admitting that his team longed for 2015 to end.
The two partners have experienced an extremely difficult reunion this year, with engine reliability issues galore and a clear lack of performance the defining features in their campaign.
Both Alonso and team-mate Jenson Button were able to use Honda’s upgraded power unit at the last grand prix, but their Mexico outing proved to be another exercise in frustration: a faulty MGU-H limited the Spaniard to a single lap, while his fellow world champion could only beat the Manors after enduring a “painful” afternoon.
“For McLaren-Honda, after a challenging couple of races, we are looking forward to arriving at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace and pushing hard with our development for the next two grands prix,” racing director Eric Boullier said in the team's Brazilian Grand Prix preview.
“Although the end of the season is in sight, we are still working flat-out to bring new parts to the car and maximise our learning and development until the last possible moment.
“We are focussing on both reliability and performance, and hope for a more positive weekend at this legendary circuit.”
