Hamilton vows to salute Senna by breaking Interlagos spell

Lewis Hamiton plans on “going all out” in order to emulate childhood hero Ayrton Senna and finally win the Brazilian Grand Prix after eight unsuccessful attempts.

Despite claiming his inaugural F1 title at Interlagos in the final lap of an emotional race in 2008, the newly crowned triple champion has yet to add Autódromo José Carlos Pace to the list of venues he has conquered.

“Interlagos is one of the real classics - quite short, tough on tyres, with variable weather and a really tricky start to the lap that always seems to bring drama,” said Hamilton.

“This was the home race for Ayrton [Senna], so it was a dream of mine to race in São Paulo when I was younger and I always feel his presence when I'm there. He was such a huge hero in Brazil and it's humbling that I always get such a warm response there.

“It's amazing to think that it took Ayrton eight attempts to win this race and it's one of the few I haven't yet won myself. If I can change that this weekend it would be a salute to him and another highlight to add to this amazing year, so I'll be going all out to make that happen.”

Despite wrapping up the 2015 title at Austin with three races to spare, Hamilton was defeated by Nico Rosberg in both Austria and Mexico, the other two grands prix on the current F1 calendar where the Briton has not won yet.

Hamilton claimed his best Brazilian Grand Prix result to date when he finished second to his Mercedes team-mate last year.
