New fascinating F1 docuseries set for Netflix release

Formula 1 has announced that a new docuseries chronicling the 2018 season and titled "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" will premiere on Netflix on March 8.

Commissioned by Liberty Media, the 10-part series goes behind the scenes to uncover the drama and thrills of the sport's inner workings, offering a candid - and often startling - glimpse into the trials and tribulations of Grand Prix racing's actors.

"Drive to Survive" is spearheaded by Academy Award-winning producer James Gay-Rees, who was involved in the critically acclaimed "Senna" documentary, as well as in the outstanding 2015 British film "Amy", a moving work about the life and death of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse.

"As we move into a new generation of Formula 1 we are thrilled to announce our new docuseries 'Formula 1: Drive to Survive'," said Ian Holmes, F1's Director of Media Rights.

"This truly unique series embodies the sport and helps us to showcase and unearth the untold stories on and off the track."

A segment of the documentary focuses on the plight endured by Williams last season as the Grove-based outfit endured its worst campaign in history.

Behind the team's closed doors, following another dismal showing, Claire Williams is seen questioning her own ability to lead her troops.

"Actually, maybe I’m not the right person to do this? Am I good enough to do it? Do I have the capability?" she tearfully asks in a scene that reflects the level of access that was granted to the series' camera crews.

However, it is believed that both Ferrari - with the exception of filming at Monza - and Mercedes refused to give the film's producers a free pass.

While we impatiently await the launch of "Drive to Survive" on March 8, you can check out the trailer for the epic series.
