Despite Williams delay, 'proud' Russell kept frustrations at bay

Williams rookie George Russell has been impressed by the commitment and dedication of his team's crews in light of the massive workload they faced this week.

Williams began its pre-season testing programme on the back foot after it failed to deliver its FW42 on time in Barcelona.

The Grove-based outfit's new car only took to the Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the team to play catch-up with its rivals.

Russell refused to let himself be consumed by feelings of frustration however, as the rookie realized just how hard the British squad's troops were working.

"It has been quite annoying watching everyone on-track, and obviously as a driver you just want to get out there," Russell said.

"It has passed quite quickly because I have understood how much work has been going on for all the people building this car.

"It hasn’t made me frustrated. I understand that we haven’t got in this situation on purpose.

"Everybody is obsessed about it and they are working their socks off to make it right. That was refreshing for me," he added.

"It made me quite proud of the guys and how much they are working. They have been up since yesterday at 2:30 in the morning working on the car to make it ready.

"It is a privilege to be part of this team."

Robert Kubica echoed his team mate's stance, insisting that morale remained healthy at Williams.

"I think it's good, in the situation it's good, but we have to remember that Australia is not far off," said the Pole.

"When you miss tests, it's okay. It shouldn't happen, but that's the reality.

"We have to make sure we get in the best possible shape for the first races which will not be easy, but we will see."
