Lando Norris hopes Lewis Hamilton will race on in F1 for at least two more years, the time it will take for McLaren to supply him with a car to battle properly the Mercedes star.
Norris is enjoying an impressive maiden season in F1 and features clearly among the sport's future stars.
As the McLaren driver ascends, Hamilton's own trajectory has put him on a path to a sixth world title and within reach of Michael Schumacher's record seven crowns.
Hamilton recently indicated that his ambition and hunger as a competitor remain intact, insisting he could "definitely" race on for another five years at the pinnacle of motorsport, a prospect relished by Norris.
"That's something I would like, to be able to fight against Lewis," Norris told Sky Sports. "A five-time world champion, possibly six this year.
"But it's a good two years before we're having a chance to fight them.
"I'm sure he's probably going to stick around especially when he's got chances of winning championships and making history. It's something I would look forward to, being able to race him."
Hamilton admits the challenge of fighting the young blood moving up the grid is one that he finds enticing, with Norris and Williams' George Russell having captured his interest.
"Lando's progression is incredibly impressive," said Hamilton at Silverstone last weekend.
"To be so young in such an early phase, he's coming in and keeping a level head and delivering on weekends, also up against a driver who's got more experience than him.
"I'm personally excited to continue to watch these two grow. I do hope that we get to do some racing together."
And so do Lando and George…
