F1 and 'Drive to Survive' get a second season on Netflix

Formula 1 and Netflix have announced that the acclaimed 'Drive to Survive' series which chronicled the 2018 F1 campaign will return next year for a second season.

The ten-episode docu-series commissioned by Netflix followed Grand Prix racing's teams and drivers with a fly-on-the-wall approach that took fans behind the scenes of the sport, unveiling the unique lives and dealings of the F1 paddock's key players.

Since Melbourne, the film crews of production company Box to Box have been hard at work, collecting footage that shall once again depict the sport's ever-present blend of drama and glamour.

"We are thrilled to once again be working with Netflix on the second series of Drive to Survive," said Ian Holmes, Director of Media Rights at Formula 1.

"It is a truly unique series which allows fans to see the unseen side of F1, showcasing the personalities and emotions each team and driver goes through, both on and off the grid.

"Drive to Survive has enabled us to reach an entire new fanbase globally, and partnering with Netflix for a second season ensures we are continuing to put fans at the heart of what we do and make the sport more open and accessible to all."

This year's series did not feature the prominent presence of either Mercedes and Ferrari, but all ten teams have given their approval to be part of next season's 2020 installment.

However, last month, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff hinted that the team's involvement would be limited to just one race, which will likely be this weekend's German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, the Silver Arrows squad's home event.
