Alfa Romeo's German GP appeal to be heard in September

Alfa Romeo's appeal against its double penalty sanction in last weekend's German Grand Prix will be heard at a hearing in Paris on September 24th.

Both Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi, who finished seventh and eight on the track at Hockenheim, were handed a 30-second time penalty after the race, a decision that demoted both Alfa drivers out of the points.

The German Grand Prix stewards had ruled that Alfa Romeo's drivers had gained an advantage at the start of the race thanks to a specific clutch torque setting applied to their car prior to their wet standing start.

Alfa Romeo Racing boss Frédéric Vasseur claimed after the race that the clutch procedure had been caused by an element outside of the team's control.

"The situation arose during the laps we spent behind the safety car ahead of the standing start – we suffered a dysfunction of the clutch that was beyond our control and we will further investigate the issue," explained Vasseur.

"We respect the FIA’s process and the stewards’ work, but will appeal this decision as we believe we have the grounds and evidence to have it overturned."

Alfa team principal Beat Zehnder revealed on Friday that the Swiss outfit's appeal shall be heard at the FIA's headquarters in Paris on September 24th.

In the interim, the full results for the 2019 German Grand Prix shall remain provisional.
