Romain Grosjean will fight to remain on the 2020 F1 grid, but the Haas driver isn't dismissing a potential move to another category.
Grosjean is in the running to remain at Haas for a fifth season, but team boss Guenther Steiner acknowledged in Spa his interest in Nico Hulkenberg who will be leaving Renault at the end of the year, replaced by F1 returnee Esteban Ocon.
Grosjean, who says he hasn't yet held any lengthy discussions with Haas over the future, believes Spa and Monza could prove crucial to his future with the team.
"The next two weeks are going to be key for the future but we left in good terms and come back in good terms," he said on Thursday.
"There are options in Formula 1 and in other categories. Everyone was waiting to see what Mercedes was going to do and obviously that was confirmed this morning, and then Esteban.
"Now there's only a couple of teams that have seats available, here one so we're going to hear every rumour, maybe even Jacques Villeneuve at one point.
"There's one going in the market and another coming out. It's good for Esteban and it's a move that we knew was going to happen.
"But it doesn't change anything, maybe more rumours and more fun for journalists."
Queried on possible alternatives to F1 for 2020, Grosjean referenced Formula E but made clear that IndyCar and its dangerous ovals were not on his agenda.
"Formula E could be one, yes. It's a nice championship, and obviously very, very different from Formula 1, but quite competitive and with some good constructors coming in which is always exciting, and maybe one or two others.
"Not IndyCar. I'm too scared of ovals."
By his own admittance, 2019 has so far been a "terrible" season for Grosjean, marked by the mysterious performance swings and set-up issues of Haas' VF-19 car, poor reliability and the costly run-ins with teammate Kevin Magnussen which aggravated Steiner.
Yet, the 33-year-old claims to be happy with his achievements.
"This year the season is not great, the results are not what they are. But I am happy with what I’ve been doing, I am happy with what I’ve achieved," he added.
"I’ve had a terrible year. Six DNFs and none of them are my fault. Reliability hasn’t been on my side, the car performance hasn’t been on my side either.
"Whenever we were going to have good races we didn’t get it to the finish line. It’s not a good season in that aspect.
"But again I think I’m happy with my performance I’m very happy with my feedback. I’m quite confident I’ll be on the grid next year."
