FIA increases punishment for track limits abuse at Parabolica

Formula 1 drivers who abuse track limits at Monza's Parabolica corner will have two lap times deleted the FIA has warned.

FIA race director Michael Masi sent a note out to teams underscoring the stewards' zero tolerance approach to track limits at the Temple of Speed's final corner.

"A lap time achieved during any practice session or the race by leaving the track (all four wheels over the white track edge line) on the outside of Turn 11 will result in that lap time and the immediately following lap time being invalidated by the stewards," stated the FIA

On Friday, McLaren's Lando Norris was issued a warning by the FIA not to run wide at Parabolica, having done so during free practice earlier in the day.

Furthermore, following a crash on Saturday morning in the F3 race in which Alex Peroni ran wide and hit a sausage kerb at Parabolica before going airborne in a terrifying sequence of events, the FIA has ordered the immediate removal of the sausage kerbs for the remainder of the weekend.

A visibly shaken Peroni miraculously walked away from the horrific crash after his car landed on a safety fence, but the accident immediately drew a reaction from F1 drivers who demanded the removal of the sausage kerb.

However, an initial analysis of the kerb by the FIA has revealed that it may have been damaged prior to Peroni's accident, with the latter therefore perhaps rooted in the track element's deterioration.
