The FIA has given details of the 12 teams that will be competing in the next season of the ABB FIA Formula E championship, which will make it the biggest grid yet for the all-electric series.

The seventh season of the competition will get underway with a doubleheader weekend at Ad Diriyah in Saudi Arabia on November 22/23. It's the first year that Mercedes and Porsche will be taking part as manufacturers.

Mercedes is taking over the grid spot occupied last year by their HWA affiliate. Former McLaren Formula 1 star Stoffel Vandoorne, who drove for HWA last season, is expected to be formally named in the driver line-up at a special event at the Frankfurt Motor Show on Wednesday.

Porsche has already formally launched its first car, with an event livestreamed on gaming platform Twitch last month. Andre Lotterer and Neel Jani will be the team's first drivers, and the squad is set to use a unique four-person management structure.

Porsche and Mercedes will join a grid that already features Audi and BMW, making it a unique face-off between the four German automotive manufacturers for the first time in history.

The DS Techeetah Formula E Team will also return to defend their team championship, with former F1 driver Jean-Éric Vergne also bidding to make it a third Formula E title in a row after clinching success in 2017/18 and 2018/19.

Here's the full line-up for the new season, as confirmed by the sport's governing body this week:

  • Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler Formula E Team
  • BMW i Andretti Motorsport
  • DS Techeetah
  • Envision Virgin Racing
  • Geox Dragon
  • Mahindra Racing
  • Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team
  • NIO 333 FE Team
  • Nissan e.dams
  • Panasonic Jaguar Racing
  • TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team
  • Venturi Racing

As well as Saudi Arabia, the teams will be racing in Santiago, Mexico City, Hong Kong, China, Rome, Paris, Berlin and New York.

There will be a brand new event in Seoul on May 3, and the season ends with a double header at a new venue in London on July 25/26.
