F1 discloses 'futuristic sweeping' 2021 front wing design

Formula 1 disclosed to teams on Monday its latest 2021 car design that apparently features "more elegant and dramatic" front and rear wings.

The design is an evolution of the scale model revealed last month, and while no images were released to the public, the 2021 car - codenamed Lima - includes a new front wing that is "more robust and no longer straight, featuring two sweeping flaps, with the endplates pointing upwards dramatically," according to the official F1 website.

The new design is the result of months of work overseen by F1’s Chief Technical Officer Pat Symonds and the FIA’s Head of Single Seater Technical Matters Nikolas Tombazis.

The rear wing has also received significant changes, with the element given a wider span with endplates and struts curved inwards rather than vertically down to form a more aesthetic look.

Additional changes include a nose lowered by 25mm and a raised chassis, with a higher "a higher headrest and roll hoop allowing more space for the drivers".

Modifications have also been implemented to the design's floor, rear brakes and gearbox.

Wind tunnel testing of the 'Lima' concept is set to continue, with F1 expected to set its 2021 rules in stone by the end of October.
