F2 racer Mick Schumacher will be joined by cousin David Schumacher at Sochi next weekend where the 17-year-old will race in the FIA Formula 3 support event for Campos Racing.
Prema's Mick Schumacher will be hoping to improve in Russia on his current 11th-place position in the F2 standings with two rounds - Sochi and Abu Dhabi -remaining on the schedule.
David Schumacher's call-up to race in F3 comes as a result of Alex Peroni sitting out the season finale following his horrific crash at Monza where the Aussie went airborne after hitting a sausage kerb at the Parabolica, fracturing a vertebra.
Schumacher, who is managed by his father Ralf and whose previous experience includes a season in German F4, is currently third in the new Formula Regional European Championship, having taken three wins and three pole positions in the junior series.
"I am really happy to join a high-profile team such as Campos Racing," said Schumacher who will race alongside Sebastian Fernandez and Alessio Deledda at the Spanish outfit.
“It will be my first time driving a car like this, so we should be realistic and put our focus on learning as much as possible."
Team boss Adrian Campos, who raced in F1 with Minardi in 1987, is delighted to provide David Schumacher with his first F3 opportunity.
"I would like to extend a very warm welcome to such a talented driver as David," said the 59-year-old former driver.
"I am sure that he is definitely promising a brilliant future in motorsport. We are aiming at helping him progress his career."
