The architects currently supervising Zandvoort's renovation have released a video of a simulated lap around the legendary track in its future Dutch Grand Prix iteration.
After a 35-year absence Formula 1 will return to Zandvoort's dunes in the spring of 2020, a home coming of sorts for Grand Prix racing which enjoyed 30 events at the historic venue between 1952 and 1985.
After a period of uncertainty marked by environmental issues and court claims, Zandvoort's infrastructure and circuit upgrade is finally underway.
While the track's basic 4.3km layout will remain unchanged, a few profile tweaks shall be implemented, such as the revamped 'Arie Luyendijkbocht' last corner that will feature an 18-degree banking that is sure to get the drivers' attention.
"This racetrack is carved into the dunes, which makes it unique in the world," track designer Jarno Zaffelli said.
"It was a challenge to preserve the history of the circuit and live up to all the present guidelines. The result will be formidable to drive, but it will be hard to overtake."
Indeed, many drivers have warned that the track action might be subdued come race day, because of Zandvoort's lack of potential overtaking spots.
But Dutch Grand Prix sporting director Jan Lammers - who believes Zandvoort could become Europe's most beautiful circuit - suggests giving the track a chance to prove itself in terms of overtaking potential.
"Many people immediately declared that it won't be possible to overtake around Zandvoort," said Lammers. "Let's see that first.
"And Monaco has proven that this sport isn't just about overtaking."
