Mercedes schedules shakedown date for 2020 car

The Mercedes AMG F1 team will launch its 2020 W11 Silver Arrow at a shakedown test at Silverstone scheduled for February 14.

Mercedes' Valentine's Day inaugural run will take place behind closed doors at the British track, but as usual the Brackley squad will supply a wide range of media assets and technical information detailing its new car.

It's likely that both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will be on hand for the shakedown and take to the track on-board the new machine as has been the tradition in the past.

While reigning world champion Hamilton will be targeting a seventh world title, a feat that would equal the achievement of F1 legend Michael Schumacher, Mercedes will also be in the running for a seventh consecutive Constructors' crown.

Mercedes will shakedown its 2020 on the same day that AlphaTauri presents its new charger at Red Bull's Hanger 7 at Salzburg airport.

You can find the full updated schedule of February's launch events fro the teams here.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
