Monaco pencils in F1, Formula E and Historic GP on 2021 agenda!

Monaco will enjoy a frantic five weeks of racing on its streets next year, with F1, Historic F1 and Formula E to stage events in the principality next year.

The triple barrage of motorsport entertainment which will start on April 23 has come about as a result of the cancellation of this year's festivities due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Monaco's Historic Grand Prix and its Formula E event usually alternate as biennial events, but this year's disruption will string together three action-packed weekends of racing, including the 2021 round of the F1 world championship.

The Historic Grand Prix will kick off the hectic spring schedule on April 23, while Monaco's 4th E-Prix will take place on May 8, with the 78th Monaco GP being run two later on May 23.

"To organize three races in the space of one month will be a premiere for us all at ACM," explains Christian Tornatore, the General Commissioner of the Automobile Club de Monaco.

"The logistical side promises to be complex, but not impossible to manage! Because of the new constraints, we shall need to start setting up the track earlier than usual, at the end of February, instead of March 15.

"We will then integrate the technical aspects, on and around the track, required by every category that will be involved. In order to achieve this, we will count on the experience and flexibility of all the persons involved, in order to achieve our objectives."

The ACM also said that its Historic Grand Prix will resume in 2022 its tradition of taking place during even years, with the event already earmarked for May 13-15 2022.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
