Renault requests withdrawal from Racing Point appeal process!

The Renault F1 team has requested to withdraw the appeals lodged against the FIA stewards' decision in the case involving Racing Point's brake ducts.

Racing Point was fined €400,000 and docked 15 Constructors' championship points for using on its RP20 car a brake duct design copied from Mercedes' 2019 W10 car.

Four teams - Ferrari, Renault, McLaren and Williams - had initially signaled their intention to appeal the verdict, as they considered the punishment to be too lenient and also questioned the FIA's decision to allow Racing Point to continue to use the controversial element until the end of the season.

Both McLaren and Williams pulled out of the process, leaving Ferrari and Renault to pursue the case, while Racing Point itself also appealed the stewards' verdict.

The French outfit, which had initiated the legal action against Racing Point after the Styrian Grand Prix, issued a statement on Tuesday evening in which it says that it has requested to withdraw its appeals.

"Beyond the decisions, the matters at issue were vital to the integrity of Formula One, both during the current season and in the future," stated Renault.

"However, intensive and constructive work between the FIA, Renault DP World F1 Team and all Formula One stakeholders has led to concrete progress in safeguarding the originality in the sport by way of amendments to the Sporting and Technical Regulations planned for the 2021 racing season, confirming the requirements to qualify as a Constructor.

"Reaching this strategic objective, in the context of the new Concorde Agreement, was our priority.

"The controversy of the start of this season should be put behind us, as we need to focus on the remainder of an intense and unique Championship."

It's unknown whether Ferrari will also withdraw its appeal or if Racing Point will continue to contest the stewards' verdict.
