Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin is reportedly interested in taking over the Haas team and promoting his son Nikita to Formula 1.
Haas recently committed to Grand Prix racing's future by signing the sport's new Concorde Agreement but that doesn't mean that team owner Gene Haas isn't attentive to any potential takeover offers that may come his way, even if the team has denied that it is for sale.
According to a report from Motorsport.com, Mazepin held discussions with several teams regarding his son's prospects in F1 for 2021. But a meeting with Haas also allegedly involved preliminary talks about a takeover of the US outfit by Mazepin.
Haas has yet to nominate its drivers for 2021, and speculation has ramped up lately that Sergio Perez is finalizing a deal with the team. However, a successful buyout of Haas by Mazepin could crush the Mexican's prospective plans.
But Motorsport's report also claims that Perez could eventually find refuge at Williams where Nicholas Latifi's contract for 2021 may not prove as watertight as originally thought following the Grove-based outfit's recent takeover by Dorilton Capital, while the British outfit's new owners are unlikely to sideline Georeg Russell.
But for Perez - who recently stressed his need to commit to a challenge in F1 that motivates him "100 percent" - a move to Williams is perhaps seen as a less than enticing prospect.
