Ricciardo 'working' on Bathurst 1000 bid with McLaren's Brown

Daniel Ricciardo has suggested that he could race in the future in the Bathurst 1000, the famous touring car event held on Australia's legendary Mount Panorama circuit in New South Wales.

Ricciardo's move to McLaren next season will put him in the vicinity of the Walkinshaw Andretti United Supercars team part-owned by McLaren boss Zak Brown.

Speaking on the latest In the Fast Lane podcast, Ricciardo revealed that he has already talked to Brown about tackling the epic Bathurst 1000 event.

"I've already had some conversations about Bathurst with him, actually," said Ricciardo. "Working on it, working on it."

Ricciardo's appetite for a Bathurst bid was wet two years ago when he tested a Kelly Racing Nissan Supercar at Calder Park, while earlier this year Brown alluded to the Aussie and McLaren teammate Lando Norris tacking Mount Panorama together!

"I think they’d both love to do it," Brown told Australian TV show Supercars Sidetracked at the time.

"I think people now know I’m a little bit different than most of the team bosses in F1 as I like to see our drivers go out and give it a go at Daytona or Le Mans, things of that nature.

"I think it’ll just come down to schedule and whether they can fit it in the schedule."

In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
