Several weeks into the new year, Lewis Hamilton is still without a contract to race in Formula 1 in 2021, but that isn't deterring the reigning world champion from training hard for the upcoming season.
Hamilton's contract negotiations with Mercedes are surrounding in intrigue with pundits speculating on why the two parties have failed so far to agree terms.
Many believe that both Hamilton and Mercedes are driving a hard bargain, with the Briton seeking a pay rise in line with his most recent achievements and the German manufacturer perhaps reticent to open its coffers wider given the world's uncertain economic outlook.
Others suggest that while perhaps a few demons remain in the details, there is practically zero chance that the talks will reach a dead end or that Hamilton will walk away.
Regardless, the 35-year-old just touched base with his fans on Instagram to give them an update from his training camp, and a tease on what may be going on "in the background".
"Hey World, I haven’t been on here for a while," he wrote. "I’m in the mountains training every day, getting my mind and body right.
"I’m hiking to the top of the mountain every morning. 3 of those hikes I cross country ski once I get to the top which is at 3400m, killer.
"I love altitude training, there is less oxygen high up so working out is much harder than at sea level, just walking up the stairs you feel it at 2000m. Normally when I finish training here and return to sea level running is such a breeze.
"I’m trying to find the right balance in cardio and strength building. On top of that, lots of work ongoing in the background. Many moving parts but just checking in to let you know I’m doing good, I’m healthy and mentally strong right now in my bubble.
"I hope you are staying as positive as you can with all that is still going on. Keep your head up. I can’t wait to see you all again at some stage soon. Sending you love and light."
One would venture to guess that when those "moving parts" stop moving, an announcement will be forthcoming. Duh…
