Vettel and Aston Martin make track debut at Silverstone

Sebastian Vettel made his track debut with Aston Martin at a wet Silverstone on Thursday, the four-time world champion shaking down the team's new AMR21 along with teammate Lance Stroll during the outfit's filming day.

It was milestone event of sorts for Aston Martin as it marked the first time in 61 years since the legendary brand put a Grand Prix car on a track.

Roy Salvadori and Maurice Trintignant each drove a DBR5 in the 1960 British Grand Prix, the last F1 running by the Aston Martin works team.

Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel - sporting a white and pink helmet livery with BWT branding - shared the allocated 100km of running on Pirelli demo tyres.

The Silverstone-based outfit will make its long-awaited race return to F1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 28, the opening round of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship.

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
