Video: Take a sim lap of the Miami GP's new circuit

It is but a sim lap obviously, but the virtual onboard still offers a pretty good idea of what drivers will experience next year when Formula 1 takes to the streets of Miami for the very first time.

Last week at Imola, F1 boss Stefano Domenicali and Miami Grand Prix managing partner Tom Garfinkel came together to sign a 10-year deal that will put Florida's 'Magic City' on the F1 map from 2022.

Garfinkel highlighted how the event plans to "blow F1 fans away" by offering a great environment centered around the Miami Dolphin's towering Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

But perhaps the venue's most important feature will be the track itself, a 19-corner layout that will unfold over 5.41-kilometer with a mix of tight and high-speed turns that should boost the show on the track.

Check out the onboard video from Apex Circuit Designs which used the Assetto Corso game to simulate the new track.

Phillip van Osten

Motor racing was a backdrop from the outset in Phillip van Osten's life. Born in Southern California, Phillip grew up with the sights and sounds of fast cars thanks to his father, Dick van Osten, an editor and writer for Auto Speed and Sport and Motor Trend. Phillip's passion for racing grew even more when his family moved to Europe and he became acquainted with the extraordinary world of Grand Prix racing. He was an early contributor to the monthly French F1i Magazine, often providing a historic or business perspective on Formula 1's affairs. In 2012, he co-authored along with fellow journalist Pierre Van Vliet the English-language adaptation of a limited edition book devoted to the great Belgian driver Jacky Ickx. He also authored "The American Legacy in Formula 1", a book which recounts the trials and tribulations of American drivers in Grand Prix racing. Phillip is also a commentator for Belgian broadcaster Be.TV for the US Indycar series.
