Abiteboul joins Alpine F1 supplier Mecachrome as advisor

Former Renault F1 boss Cyril Abiteboul who left the rebranded Alpine outfit at the start of the year has a foot back on the grid following his nomination as an advisor to Mecachrome.

The French company, a global leader in precision mechanics for the automotive and aircraft industries, is a long-standing contracted supplier to Renault and Alpine for which it produces major engine components and helps assemble Renault's V6 power units.

Mecachrome has collaborated for more than 20 years with Renault, but has also leveraged its cutting-edge technology and industry expertise with a variety of automotive companies, including Ferrari, Stelia, Porsche and Rolls Royce.

Earlier this year, Mecachrome and Alpine signed a new four-year contract for the development and production of specific F1 engine elements as well as for assembly services for the race engine used in the FIA F1 World Championship.

Laurent Rossi, Alpine CEO, said: "Working with a partner like Mecachrome is an asset in our project to return to the highest level of F1. Continuity is a strength in this ultra-competitive and ever-changing sport."

Abiteboul's advisory role with the company will involve sharing his insight and experience across all of Mecachrome's motorsport connections, including F1.

"We are proud that Cyril can provide its support and expertise to the teams of the group in this activity which, since 1983, has supported prestigious brands in the largest categories of motorsport, F1, F2, F3, endurance, rally," said Mecachrome CEO Christian Cornille.

"Mecachrome group have to understand the trends and opportunities of this sector and make them consistent with the Group's objectives and the transformation undertaken in its other businesses."
